ATM cave tour prices

Every visit to Actun Tunichil Muknal is a guided tour, so the tour price is the real price of the cave. Here is what you pay in 2026, what it covers and what to keep aside for the day.

Booking choice: The MayaWalk ATM cave tour, from $145 per person. Check dates Compare the options below

You cannot walk into the ATM cave on your own: the Institute of Archaeology only lets visitors in with a certified ATM guide. That makes pricing simple to compare, because every option is a full-day tour with the guide, the gear and the drive built in.

Prices below are the from-prices on the live Viator listings in 2026, in US dollars. They move with the season, so the checkout price is the one that counts.

The quick answer

From San Ignacio, a guided ATM cave tour costs $145 per person with a licensed guide, gear, lunch and transport. The ATM and Xunantunich combo is $240. From Belize City, Placencia or Hopkins you pay $245 to $280, and about $400 from San Pedro. Most tours include the site entrance fee; tips are extra.

How much is an ATM cave tour in 2026?

Tours from San Ignacio start at $145 per person; from the coast and the cayes they cost $245 to $400 because of the long drive.

All of these are full-day guided tours with caving gear. The table shows the from-price per adult, where each one starts and how long it runs.

What does the $145 tour include?

A licensed ATM guide, the drive to the site, a helmet, headlamp and life jacket, about three hours inside the cave, and lunch.

The three San Ignacio tours at $145 differ in the details. MayaWalk starts from its office on Burns Avenue and serves a picnic lunch with a drink. Belize Family Adventure picks you up at hotels in San Ignacio town and lists the entrance fee, water, juice and a stew chicken lunch. Belize Caving Expeditions adds snacks, hotel pickup and "all fees and taxes".

Helmets and headlamps are provided: you carry nothing else inside.

Is the ATM cave entrance fee included?

On most tours, yes: the Belize Family Adventure, Belize Caving Expeditions, Hopkins, San Pedro and combo listings all include it.

The site's official fee, as listed by NICH, the body that runs Belize's archaeological sites, is $30 for residents and $60 for non-residents; the page does not say which currency, so we do not convert it. MayaWalk's listing does not mention the fee either way (its only listed extras are gratuities and hotel pickup), and the Placencia and Belize City listings do not name it, so ask the operator before you travel if you want to be sure.

Which $145 tour should you pick?

Choose on logistics: MayaWalk if you can walk to Burns Avenue, Belize Family Adventure or Belize Caving Expeditions if you want hotel pickup.

MayaWalk is the most reviewed ATM tour in Belize, at 5.0 from 1,502 reviews, and runs up to six guests per guide. Belize Family Adventure (4.8, 193 reviews) is the shortest day at 7.5 hours, and guests report its guides being patient with an 8-year-old. Belize Caving Expeditions (4.8, 120 reviews) keeps groups to a maximum of 15.

Why do tours from the coast cost so much more?

Because you are paying for a long drive each way and a 9 to 11 hour day, not a different cave.

From Belize City the day costs $250, from Placencia $245, from Hopkins $280 and from San Pedro $400, with the water taxi to Belize City on top. A night in San Ignacio and the $145 tour often works out cheaper and far less tiring. See the ATM cave from Belize City and the coast.

Is the ATM and Xunantunich combo worth $240?

Yes if you are short on days; less so if you are also visiting Tikal or Caracol.

The combo adds the Xunantunich temples after lunch, both entrance fees, snacks and towels, and needs at least two people per booking. Guests call it a long, tiring day. One guest who also planned bigger Maya sites wrote that you could skip the ruin portion, since Xunantunich is much smaller than Tikal or Caracol.

What is not included?

Gratuities are not included on any of the tours, and pickup outside San Ignacio town costs extra on some of them.

Tip what feels right for your guide and driver; no listing sets an amount. MayaWalk does hotel pickup only on request, and Belize Family Adventure charges a surcharge for hotels outside San Ignacio town. From the cayes, the water taxi to Belize City is not included, and the San Pedro listing names juices and water but not lunch.

What happens to your money if it rains?

It depends on the operator: after heavy rain the site can close, and terms range from another date to no refund.

You can cancel any of these tours yourself for a full refund up to 24 hours before. Weather cancellations by the operator are different: MayaWalk cancels only for severe rain or flooding, the combo offers another date or a different tour (surcharges may apply), and one Belize Family Adventure guest reports not getting a refund after a December 2025 weather cancellation. Build a spare day into your stay if you can. More in how hard the ATM cave is.

Keeping a spare day free? Check a date early in your San Ignacio stay, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Frequently asked questions

Can you visit the ATM cave without a tour?

No. The Institute of Archaeology only allows visitors in with a certified ATM guide, so a guided tour is the only way in.

Is lunch included on ATM cave tours?

Yes on the San Ignacio tours and on the Belize City, Placencia and Hopkins trips. The San Pedro listing names juices and water but not lunch.

Do children pay less?

On some tours. MayaWalk has a child band for ages 6 to 11, and the combo has one for ages 6 to 15; other listings charge one rate. Every child must be at least 40 inches tall.

How much should I tip my ATM guide?

No listing sets an amount; gratuities are simply not included. Tip what feels right for the guide and driver.
